On this rock, we will build the church (Matthew 16:13-19)
Jesus asked His 12 disciples who was the messiah. Someone answered Elijah, another answered John the Baptist.
Peter stood up to say it`s Jesus. "You are the Messiah, the son of the living God." Peter has the right understanding, as he experiences
God personally....On this rock, I will build my church. Peter`s name means rock. The church has not been started by that time.
Jesus came to the world for 33 years. and after that was nailed on the cross at Calvary to cleanse our sins. Jesus rose again.
After 40 days, Jesus asked the disciples to wait at Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit was sent down to earth by God, and that is the beginning
of the church. The 120 disciples were used to start churches. And the Holy Spirit is with every believer.
The 120 disciples spoke in tongues and the others present were surprised and thought that the disciples were drunk. Peter stood up to
explain that it was the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2: 41. Peter baptized about 3,000 people to become disciples. All the 3,000 experienced God
personally and crossed over the bridge to meet God personally. Its a personal experience of knowing God. We cannot do it for another person.
The church can continue because everyone have a close fellowship and connection with each other, and to try to bring more non believers to
believe in Jesus.
1. God is the owner (Acts 9:4, Ephesians 5;24) Its like that of the husband for the wife. The husband is the head of the family, and Jesus is the head of
the church.
2, The Builder (Ephesians 5:26) Build the church on the rock. Comparison of the husband and wife. The husband builds the wife, and Jesus builds
the church. By sanctification.
3. Build on top of something strong (Ephesians 2:20) Rock (Peter) Petra. Build one roots of the Bible. We need to consult Jesus for many things
in the church. Leaders in the church need to have a link with Jesus, through the Bible.
4. The Power of Death. Cannot be destroyed. In Acts 2, there were 120 disciples. In Acts 3-7, there were 10,000 and by Acts 8, there were 25,000.
Spread towards Judea, Samaria, Galilee, Galatia, Messadonia etc etc.
