Strong Characteristics of a Disciple Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Disciples are Christians who have accepted Christ and learnt about the Bible.
But there are some Christians who do not dare to call themselves as disciples.
Because they think that the term disciple should be used for people who serve
God full time, such as teachers, pastors and others working in the church ministry.
So they think of themselves as just being members of the Christian family, without
any role in the serving of God.
In truth, when we become Christians, we are also considered as disciples for God.
Strong Characteristics of a Disciple
1. Disciples hold firm on the will of God. John 15:7
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
When the disciples are deciding on their next steps, they will always look for answers in the bible.
The bible is the highest guide for the disciples to lead their lives.
2. The disciples use God as their guide in life. Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Allowing God to change our lives in every aspect
Accepting the will of God with a full heart.
3. Disciples live a life full of love. John 13:34-35
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Love like in Agape love which means loving with no conditions
Love God with our total heart and life, and love our neighbors like we love ourselves
4. Disciples bring results John 15:5
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you,
you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
The Holy Spirit guides us and helps us to grow and be more like Jesus
We cannot be the perfect disciple, but we have to continue being the disciple for Jesus
so as to bring other people to know God and have salvation.
