Be the salt and the light for Jesus Matthew 5: 13-16
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?
It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand,
and it gives light to everyone in the house.
For followers of Jesus, God takes good care of us and gives us salvation, various gifts and talents,
helping us to turn over a new leaf and live a new life. God sends us the Holy Spirit to be our reminder
and guide us to live our lives close to God and following His footsteps.
God gives us blessings in our lives. One of the commandments God gave to us is to be
the salt of the earth, and to be the light of the world. Salt is an element that is very useful.
It preserves food and prevents the food from spoiling. It extends the freshness of shelf-life of foodstuff.
Salt is necessary to everyday life and God wants us to be someone that is of use to the people around us,
helping them and encouraging them and blessing them.
1 Corinthians 10: 23-24
“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—
but not everything is constructive. No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.
Christians should speak about the will of God, the truth and meaning of Christianity.
Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up
according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Hebrews 6:7 Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for
whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God.
Before we were believers, we lived a life of darkness. After repenting and believing in Jesus, our sin is forgiven
and washed by the blood of Jesus on the cross of Calvary. We live a new life and God
tells us to live a life away from the darkness, a life in the path of the light.
Ephesians 5:8-9 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
We should live a life as a living testimony for God. A life that sends light to people who are in the dark,
who do not know God yet.
Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
